Questionnaire results - Analysis

In total we questioned 20 people; 1 year 9, 2 year 10’s, 3 year 11’s, 9 year 12’s and 5 year 13’s. This could make an inaccurate reading of what our target audience actually would want to see in a thriller, because depending on their age will depend on their tastes on what they would enjoy.

We interviewed 12 females and 8 males, this could mean our data may not be as accurate as we hoped because if we were being stereotypical then girls are less likely to enjoy thrillers opposed to boys who we think are more likely to enjoy them. So therefore the data we have collected may not appeal to both sexes.

We discovered that people thought that psychological thrillers hadn’t been explored into according to the question that we asked. This may been that our psychological thriller could fit into the market because there may be a gap/niche for it.

What is your favourite film? 

We had a range of answers including:
  • Brooklyn’s finest.
  • Law abiding citizen.
  • Mean girls. 
  • Fight Club
  • Never back down.
By questioning people on what they would want to see, we could perhaps take ideas from films that our target audience like and include features from them in our own work.
What conventions do you expect to see in a thriller?
  • Suspense.
  • Murder.
  • Excitement .
  • A good plot.
  • Twist in the plot.
  • Blood
  • Psycho 
  • Tension 
These are some of the conventions are  potential audience would like to see in a thriller, so therefore we will include some of these in our own work. For example in our work we will create suspense, tension. We also want to be unconventional so that the audience is not always able to predict whats going to happen next, so therefore we have made our killer, a girl.
  • What location would you find the most interesting to be used?

We discovered that the most two popular locations were a remote location and a busy street. We are going to be using remote location of a country land in the middle of nowhere, because it is only a opening to a thriller we won’t feature many locations however will still set the scene by using establishing shots of the surroundings. We will also feature a familiar location, one that the audience will be able to relate to, we will use a bedroom.

Who would you like to see as the antagonist (eg. The bad person)?

We discovered that people tend to go for the man being the dominant character however also people would like to see a young girl being the antagonist, this we are trying to include in our own work which it is unconventional for a female to be seen as the protagonist.

We discovered that people tended to stick to stereotype of the women being the good person, we are going to break a way from this stereotype in our own work.

What do you think of this synopsis?
We had good reviews back of our synopsis, people said that they would watch it and that it would make an interesting opening to a thriller.
